The Moon Archive is an archive on neocities storing (almost) everything about the Moon! The Moon is the only natural satellite of Earth, the planet we live on. It appears glowing at night on Earth, because it mirrors light from the Sun. Due to the moon spinning around Earth, there are eight moon phases! The eight phases are: full moon, waxing gibbous, first quarter, waxing crescent, new moon, waning crescent, last quarter, waning gibbous and repeat back to full moon. The Moon was born from Theia, a planet that billions of years ago that crashed into Earth due to Venus’s gravity perturbation.

In mythology, there are often many Moon interpretations, goddesses and lore/stories/fairytales, such as Chang'Er from chinese mythology, Selene from greek mythology, werewolves, etc! The Moon is associated with a lot of things, like gemstones such as moonstones and selenites and in the tarot card "The Moon". Many aesthetics revolve around or include the Moon, especially aesthetics with witchy vibes like whimsigoth. The Moon in games can be extremely impactful like it is in real life, such as the moon in "Minecraft" affecting hostile mob spawn chances and causing slimes to spawn or not spawn. Many songs mention the moon or even sing directly about it. For example, songs such as "Tek it" by Cafune and "" mention the moon, but songs like "Over The Moon" by Penelope Scott,"The Moon Will Sing" by The Crane Wives and "Moon Girl" by Ha Vay (there's another song called Moon Girl by temachii instead!!).

The Moon Archive was (and is!) made by me, Lunalove79! The Moon is an incredibly big influence on us (and tides!), and sometimes it feels as though the Moon is not appreciated enough, so I created this archive as a way to say thank you to the ever radiant Moon! I began making The Moon Archive in August of 2026, then posted it in September of 2026, and is still adding more content to this day. Thank you Moon, for our beautiful tides, inspiring us, and lighting up the dark night!
